Dr. Antje Hildebrandt, Teaching Fellow (Dance), visited Jiangnan University Dance Department, in Wuxi, China from 29th June to 3rd July 2015.
As a part of her visit, Antje gave a presentation to University staff and students and a series of creative workshops to second year dance students. The presentation looked at the topic of Conceptual Dance in Britain through a case study of the work of British choreographer Jonathan Burrows. The practical workshops were principally focused on Contemporary Dance Practice and Choreography including principles of Somatic Practices (Skinner Release Technique), Contact Improvisation, William Forsythe’s Improvisation Technologies, Laban’s Effort Theory, Post-modern Choreographic Strategies and Social Choreography.
University of Surrey MA Dance and Cultures Graduate Xia Hou, Deputy Head of Dance, was the primary host. Antje also met with Professor Shanshan Fu, Deputy Dean of School of Humanities, and Lingfei Ye, Head of Dance.
