Computing graduates gathered in London on 3 July to catch up with old friends and members of staff and to hear how their department, ranked number 8 in the UK by the Guardian University Guide, is developing.
The reunion was hosted by Professor Steve Legg, Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor, and IBM on the South Bank. Professor Legg leads IBM’s University Relations activities in the UK, working with leading universities and higher education authorities to build strategic relationships and foster opportunities for collaborative research.
Alumni from 1995 to 2014 enjoyed the opportunity to network and Dr Helen Treharne, Head of Department, updated on the latest news. Three alumni – Tom Crowder (2005), Nicholas Moger (2006) and Dadamuga Mazino (2014) – spoke about their time at Surrey and highlighted how their degrees had influenced their careers. Our Year-2 UG student Sam O’Sullivan shared his experience at Surrey as a current student.
Prof Anthony TS Ho, the departmental Alumni Coordinator, closed the event by announcing the winners of the raffle and thanking all people who helped make the event a success.
Dinner was then served after the event was formally closed, and our alumni and staff were staying to chat with each other, while enjoying the buffet of canapés and finger food kindly sponsored by IBM UK.
The reunion is a popular event in the computing calendar – look out for our next year’s event.
