Pint of Science 2020: Call for Participants!

The University is now planning our Pint of Science Festival 2020. This is a great opportunity to speak to the general public about your research, practice and wider science in an informal local setting. Last year we held 9 fantastic events, with 19 separate talks across 4 Guildford pubs over 3 days. We had 33 speakers, with 20 events staff and MC’s supporting. We sold out (for the first time ever) all 535 seats over the festival. We had lots of fun, our audience really enjoyed it and we learnt some lessons on how to do it better next time (as we always do)!

We’d like to build on everything we achieved last year and at this stage all I’m looking for from you is an expression of interest by 4pm Friday 17 January 2020 and to check whether you or colleagues might be free to take part as a presenter, compare (MC) or as POS events team member.

Key information:

Dates: 11-13 May 2020

Locations: 3 -4 (maybe more) Guildford Pubs

Timings: Events are in the evening, usually starting around 7.30pm and we usually have a couple of academic/research presenters (or teams) for each event.

Audience: General Public  of all ages, but mostly over 18’s!

Commitment: 1 event for 1 evening (so an hour) for a presenter and 2.5 hours for event team and MC’s.

If POS is new to you, then you can find out more information here:

If you’d like to spend an evening in a pub talking about your research or supporting colleagues to do that, I’d love to hear from you. It’s a great event and just one way we’re engaging the public with all the fantastic work you’re doing here at the University.
