As we all know, Guildford and London are super expensive. Sometimes it seems impossible to make the most of London being so close to Guildford on a student budget. However, there are so many cool things to do in London that are completely free and here are some of them:
1. The Sky Garden
This is usually the first thing I recommend to people visiting the city. The Sky Garden is located on the top floor of the Walkie Talkie and offers panoramic views over London. With floor-to-ceiling glass windows, this lush urban jungle provides fantastic views of the rooftops of London, with an open-air terrace providing views across the Thames. Tickets are completely free of charge, BUT you need to book them one week before on the website. As this place is becoming more and more popular, tickets usually go quite fast, so be quick! Here’s a picture I took at the Sky Garden just after sunset the other day:
2. Walk along the South Bank
Long walks from Westminster and the London Eye all the way to Tower Bridge definitely belong to my favourite things to do in the city. This walk takes you past so many attractions like Millennium Bridge, Shakespeare’s Globe, Tate Modern, Borough Market and you are almost guaranteed to find amazing artists and buskers on the way!
London has so many amazing museums, and some of the best ones are actually free! The iconic British Museum, the Science Museum in beautiful South Kensington, and the Tate Modern, a power station transformed into London’s centre for modern and contemporary art are all free.
Have a lovely day!
