Asian Restaurants in Guildford

Sushi Nara

Wagamama

Hello, everyone! Today I will talk about Asian restaurants in Guildford. As many of you may already know, a lot of Asian students are studying at University of Surrey. For this reason, and also because Asian cuisine is becoming more and more popular in general, you can find a variety of Asian restaurants in the town. In the UK, and particularly in London, you have an easy access to any kinds of cuisine including Asian, Middle Eastern, African, and the others. This is certainly one of the most attractive points about living in a diversified country/city, but it doesn’t make you lose your appetite for your own foods; of course you sometimes feel like going back to your origin and craving for sushi and ramen noodles! Out of all those great restaurants in Guildford, I picked 3 here. Enjoy!

The first restaurant is called “Sushi Nara”, which is located on the top of North Street. As shown in the name, it is a Japanese restaurant but sushi is not the only dish they serve; they also have other beautiful Japanese dishes as well. The service quality is very good and you can totally enjoy your “Japanese-like” experience while having your meal. It is a little pricy, but considering the quality of the foods and the service, I would say it is good value for money.

The next one is not Japanese, but one of my favourite restaurants in town; it is called “Thai Terrace”, a luxury Thai restaurant located just one street down from High Street. If you go up on the High Street and turn right just before the Guildford Tourist Information Centre, it’s right there. The restaurant is on the 7th floor, which gives you the great view of the town. It is separated into 2 areas: the bar and the restaurant. If the tables are full, you can wait for a while in the bar zone with a glass of wine in your hand. Because of its great interior decoration and atmosphere, a lot of people go there for special occasions such as birthdays.

The last suggestion is “Wagamama”, the famous chain restaurant that can be found in the UK and many European countries. The one in Guildford is located very close from the station, less than 5 minutes walk. My first experience at Wagamama was when I was living in Greece, and the memory of the first scoop of their green curry stayed in my head ever since; luckily, they have exactly the same menu at the shop in Guildford. The curry is called “Raisukaree”, in case you are interested to try! One last tip for Wagamama is that you can have green tea for free J

Guildford is an Asian-friendly town in terms of foods. Also, as mentioned in this blog for many times before, University of Surrey is 35 minutes away from London by fast train, which allows you to go there to have some “real” Japanese or Asian meal and come back on the same day. It is indeed important to try to enjoy the local cuisine of the country where you are staying, but it is only natural to start missing your foods after a while. If that happens, go and try these Asian restaurants, and you will be energised for the whole semester!
