London Sightseeing 2

Brick Lane

Buckingham Palace

その後はGreen Park(グリーンパーク)を少し散歩して、昨日のリベンジのためHarrods(ハロッズ)へ。

Afternoon Tea

Hello, everyone! The Easter break is over and classes started on Monday. It is hard to believe that we only have 5 weeks left for the school year, but let’s appreciate everyday and make the most out of it! Today, I will talk about the London sightseeing tour with my family (second half).

Our Sunday started with lovely breakfast at the hotel at 9 in the morning. The first destination was the Brick Lane Market in Shoreditch. The market consists of several sections, including international food booths and second hand clothing shops. Some shops are open on other days as well, but it gets most populated and lively on Sundays. My brother bought a new iPhone case, and my mother bought loads of baby clothes for my niece. We took the photos in front of the graffiti walls, feeling the vibes of East London.

After eating some ethnic foods from the Thai and Chinese booths (delicious!), we headed to Harrods, the luxury department store with more than 160 years of history. However, it was closed due to the Easter holiday. We promptly changed our plan and went to the British Museum instead. The museum is so large that it can easily take up a whole day. Since we didn’t have enough time to look through everything, we made a list of the exhibits that we wanted to see. After 2 hours or so, we left the museum and went for some shopping. We started off from Bond Street station and walked through Oxford Street, then Regent Street to Piccadilly Circus. Finally we went to Covent Garden for dinner and went back to the hotel for some rest.

Our destination on Monday was the Buckingham Palace. By the time we arrived, the venue was full and we were not sure if we could see the change of the guards properly. Luckily, we managed to see some actions but I felt it would have been better to find the right spot and the right time to arrive in advance to make the most out of it. Then we took a nice walk in Green Park and went back to Harrods, after calling and making sure it would not be closed on the day. First, we bought some souvenirs including Harrods goods and nice sets of tea, and then we had afternoon tea at The Tea Room on the 2nd floor. Being satisfied with the amazing afternoon tea experience, we did some more shopping in Oxford Circus. We also stopped by at the Liberty department store, which is very famous amongst Japanese people. We ended our day at the local Italian restaurant near our hotel.

On Tuesday, we checked out at around 10 and went to the bus stop at Woking station. While waiting for the airport limousine, we did the last souvenir shopping at Marks & Spencer at the station. When on holiday, I always go to a local supermarket because it is the best way to know the local life of the destination. We took the bus at around 11 and arrived at the Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 at 11:30. Such a short visit but we had a wonderful time together. The key to enjoy such a short visit is to set the goal(s) and destination(s) for each day, yet not to plan too many things so that you have a little bit of flexibility. Plan your schedule according to your family’s or friends’ preferences and enjoy your time in beautiful London!
