What’s happening in the Library this summer

We have a variety of improvements happening over the summer which will result in some great benefits for students and staff in the new academic year but will result in a certain amount of disruption in the summer while work is going on:

  • Our new Library system is due to go live mid-August with a hugely improved and comprehensive search interface for students and staff. There will be a cutover period where certain Library activities won’t be available or may have some interim processes eg reservations and inter library loans. We’ll be updating when we have more detail about but it is likely to be from about the last week in July until mid-August. There’ll be information about changes to the way things are done and reminders about some changes to our loans and fines policies nearer the time the system is due to go live.
  • As part of changes to loan policies, the one day loan collection on Level 1 is being incorporated into the main run of books on Levels 2, 4, and 5.
  • We have some improvements to the main Level 1 Library entrance taking place – no more need to swipe out and a self-service kiosk for students who have forgotten their cards. There may be some disruption around the gates into the Library or temporary closure of an entrance but we’ll flag these up as soon as we have dates – likely to be mid-July.
  • Library computers on Level 1 are due to be replaced so there will be about 4-5 days when students won’t be able to use computers on Level 1 of the Library – again we will update once dates have been confirmed.
  • All small bins in the Library are being removed and larger recycling bin units put in their place as part of the University’s green initiatives.

If you need any help finding a book, computer (or bin!) whilst work is going on staff at the Support Hub on Level 1 are always happy to help.
