Nominate Daphne Jackson for the new £50 note

The Daphne Jackson Trust needs your help to nominate Professor Daphne Jackson to feature on the new £50 note for the Bank of England’s ‘Think Science’ competition.

The closing date for nominations is Friday 14 December 2018 and you can nominate using the online form here, with the chosen character announced in 2019.

Professor Daphne Jackson (1936 –1991) was a nuclear physicist and a lifelong campaigner for women in STEM careers. Professor Jackson was appointed Professor of Physics at the University of Surrey in 1971, the first female Professor of Physics in the UK. Later, she became Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University.

The Daphne Jackson Trust was established in 1992 in her memory to continue her inspired work. Based in the Department of Physics, the charity provides the opportunity for scientists, technologists, engineers or mathematicians to return to research following a career break of two years or more and when taken for family, caring or health reasons.
