Student Money’s 2014 Money Week, which took place in the Library Concourse, was a great success
Careers, Accommodation and Life Mentoring raised awareness of the excellent advice available on campus on money, employment and accommodation issues.
Unique Fruit’s stand showed how great seasonal produce is for health and budget. Tasty samples of economical, easy to make meals by Wates and Hillside disappeared in record time, and Student Money’s “Taste Test Challenge” to eat luxury, branded and value biscuits, and spot the difference, pleasantly surprised cost conscious students.
Students were very interested in the array of experts from the community brought to them by the University money advisers. Student Finance England was joined by experts from Payplan, the Money Advice Service, the DWP, Surrey Save and Brightside Trust, and the Ombudsman’s Service. Martin Lewis, the nation’s favourite money saving expert, sent a video clip, and money-saving organisations, such as Surrey County Council’s “Love Food, Hate Waste Campaign”, The Re-Cycled Bike Shed, and The Guildford Furniture Link Project were popular. Santander showed off their excellent new app.
In one short lunchtime students gained excellent information on all sorts of money-saving ideas. Many will also have a merrier Christmas now thanks to jobs offered by Scattergoods Recruitment and Army & Navy.
