“Spotlight On” Series ….Student Life Team

Over the next 6 months we’ll be looking at the work of different Student Support teams with a series of brief articles released through SurreyNet.

These will examine how teams deliver on University strategic aims, in line with the departmental strategy, in the key areas of student

  • recruitment
  • retention
  • development

Tours of the Student Services Centre

Have you visited the Student Services Centre yet?  Would you like to know what teams work there and what support is provided ?

Student Information Desk (SID)







Please come to the Student Information Desk area of the Student Centre on one of the following dates for a quick 10 minute tour of our services:-

  •  Wednesday 15th October 2014, 10am
  • Wednesday 22nd October 2014, 10am
  • Wednesday 29th October 2014, 10am

Staff Welcome 3500 New Students

Student Support Warden and Student Life teams worked over the weekend to welcome 2700 new students on Saturday and 800 on Sunday to their new accommodation at Stag Hill, Manor Park and Hazel Farm.



Student (Residential) Support teams include

  • 14 resident staff wardens – living across 3 residential sites and dealing with discipline and pastoral support
  • 3 student life officers in the Student Centre – coordinating support, through 55 mentors, for all new  UG & PG residents
  • 55 student life mentors-  11 teams with 5 students in each, who visit mentees to resolve issues and ensure effective transition and retention across University student and academic life.

Customer Service Excellence Award for Student Support Services / Student Centre

We’re pleased to announce the award  of the quality standard below in July 2014, following work over the last six months towards the accreditation.


CSE            SSC

All Student Support Services / Student Centre teams have been awarded the CSE quality mark for the standard of services to students, they include:

-Directors Office (Strategy and operational delivery across team below)
-Student Services Centre – Student Information Desk (SID provide a one stop shop on support and administration related to University life)
-Student Life (Student satisfaction, success and retention)
-Student Money (Money information, advice and guidance pre and post entry in support of recruitment and retention)
