Christmas Incoming :D

Hello everyone, it is me again, your Vietnamese Student Ambassador. How are you doing? Another week has passed, and this semester is almost over. Today is the last day of November, and the weather starts to get really cold now. The sun is usually set at around 4pm and completely dark around 5pm. It is quite different compared to Viet Nam. It is almost the end of the year, which means a lot of things are going to happen. First of all, Christmas is coming. Only one month left and Christmas will be here. Secondly, the deadline for coursework and projects is coming too. I just finished some and there are still a few more that need to be done. Being a Master student is truly a great deal. Then New year is coming too. I wonder if I am going to have a white Christmas this year. I am going to have another New year celebration far from home. I am kind of missing the warm and the New Year festival in Viet Nam. (I will blog about the New Year at Surrey next time) And lastly, right after New Year is our final exam. I can not believe that this semester is almost over, and the exams are coming.

Yesterday was Black Friday, the Friday following Thanksgiving Day. Although the United Kingdom does not celebrate Thanksgiving Day like in the United State of America, people here usually celebrate the Harvest Festival of Thanksgiving, which traditionally near the final Sunday of the harvest moon of the autumnal equinox. Black Friday is basically a day for shopping and preparing for Christmas. Back in the day, Black Friday was related to the financial crisis of the United States. People panicked and everything was sale off at great deals. After the crisis was over, people in the United States still kept traditional for shopping on the Black Friday both as an excuse for shopping to their heart and to not forget the crisis. Over time, this tradition becomes worldwide and adapting to different cultures. Well, back to the main topic, yesterday, after I finished my classes, I hopped on the bus and headed to the Guildford town and hoped for some great deals. However, I was too confident in my cold resistance and underestimated the winter here. I was almost frozen and could not walk around in the town. So I headed back to the library and worked on my Human Anatomy coursework. I was so regretted that I missed the Black Friday.

When I got back to the campus, it was really quiet and somehow, I felt kind of awesome. Since the library here was always full (even though, Surrey Library has five huge floors). I will get in detail about our Surrey Library next time. Normally, it is really hard to find a spot to study. However, yesterday, the library was really quiet and not many people studied in the library too, properly due to the last day of the week and also Black Friday. Once in a while, I plan to pull an all-night study in the library, but I could not continue due to my hungriness. So I dragged myself back to my accommodation and had some ramen and enjoyed my weekend.

Alright, that’s it from me for today. I will try my best here to study and enjoy my young life. Wishing you much happiness and joyful, till the end of this year and to the next year. I hope I will meet new students from Vietnam next semester. I will keep you all updated.

Goodluck and Have fun.
