After a dreadfully long and bitter winter, the sun has finally decided to show its face around here! I took the opportunity to do a bit of exploring; which you’ll get to see in this post as well as the next few.

On a sunny Saturday, who doesn’t want to unearth their sandals from the back of the cupboard and head to the beach? Now I must warn you, it’s not like most of the beaches you’ll find in the Caribbean. There are pebbles instead of sand, and no one is taking a dip in the salt water. (Strange, right?)

Thankfully, there’s lots more to do in Brighton and it’s a lovely change of scenery on a day when the clouds have gone away.

When you hear the name ‘The Royal Pavillion‘, you don’t exactly envisage a building that looks like the Taj Mahal, but the one in Brighton does. You can have a nice picnic on the grass (now that it’s dry) and tap your foot to some live music.

5 minutes walking from The Royal Pavillion, you’ll come across The Lanes: filled with funky little independent shops where you can find just about anything. Ice cream, tattoos, vintage clothing, ducks…lol yep. There’s a shop that only sells miniature duck trinkets. It’s called ‘The Duck House’, quite fittingly.

The British Airways i360 is basically a giant tower that can give you a bird’s eye view of the beautiful, buzzing city from 531 feet above. I didn’t take the opportunity, but I could’ve gotten a cheeky student discount if I did!

If you’re afraid of heights, you can always just treat yourself to some fish and chips by the seaside, bring a ball to kick around, use one of the outdoor ping pong tables or even rent a bike for a day. If you don’t mind crowds, there’s even a Coney Island-esque amusement park on the pier! Why not spare some change for a roller coaster ride or two?

Overall, Brighton is a beautiful spot! There’s music everywhere, and lots of picture- perfect opportunities.
