England in Spring: Brixton Market…Jerk Roti?

Before I ever came to uni here, I heard tons of reviews about how Brixton is the ‘little Caribbean’ in London, and that’s no exaggeration at all! It’s not the most picturesque area, but it definitely is cultured.

If you ever have a craving for a taste of home- jerk, saltfish, aloo pie, doubles, ackee, plantain or any Caribbean food at all, Brixton is the place! The cultural fusion is beautiful, and it really reminds me of home. I was really hesitant about trying jerk roti, but I must say it was great! You can even get genuine Venezuelan arepas here, and beautiful African print clothing and fabrics.

At Brixton market you’ll also find any fresh produce that you’d get at home- namely plantains– as well as products for black hair (braiding and weaving hair too).

If you’re looking for a good night out with dancehall, zouk and soca music, again I say, Brixton is the place.

Long story short, if you want to be back home without going back home..Brixton. Is. The. Place.
