For Black History Month, the DC have asked members of the Surrey Research Community to nominate a Black scholar who has inspired them.
This week Postgraduate Researcher Sapphire Lally nominates CHANDA PRESCOD-WEINSTEIN.
“Black people are extremely underrepresented/excluded in physics, and I cannot bring to mind or find any examples of Black researchers in quantum theory, which is my field. A current researcher who I find very impressive is Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, who is an American/Barbadian cosmologist. Although I do not know that much about her research, I am impressed with the way she juggles her research with public engagement. I find her aspirational as an example of a successful academic, even though she is not influential in my field specifically”.
