Sustainability is more than just a buzzword—it’s a way of thinking, living, and acting. At the Surrey Sustainability Society, we believe that education is the foundation of meaningful change. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our Library Student Curator project, a cornerstone of this year’s Sustainability Week (31st March – 7th April 2025), on the theme of ‘books for a greener tomorrow.’
This project is more than just a display of books; it’s an invitation to explore, learn, and engage with the ideas that can shape a more sustainable future. By transforming the library lobby into an interactive learning space, we aim to bridge the gap between awareness and action, making sustainability accessible and inspiring for everyone on campus.
Why This Project Matters
Sustainability isn’t just about understanding the challenges we face—it’s about finding solutions and taking responsibility. Yet, for many, the world of sustainability can feel overwhelming or disconnected from their daily lives. This project is designed to change that.
By curating a collection of influential books, documentaries, and expert recommendations, we’re creating a space where students, faculty, and the broader community can discover resources that resonate with them. Whether you’re passionate about climate change, renewable energy, or sustainable living, there’s something here for everyone.
But this project isn’t just about reading—it’s about dialogue, collaboration, and community. Through interactive activities, documentary screenings, and a suggestion board, we’re fostering a culture of shared learning and collective action.
What to Expect
During Sustainability Week, the library lobby will come alive with:
- A Curated Book Display: Explore thematic sections on topics like climate change, green technology, and sustainable living.
- Professor Recommendations: Gain insights from sustainability experts on the books that have shaped their thinking.
- Documentary Screenings: Watch and discuss thought-provoking films that highlight pressing sustainability issues.
- Community Input: Share your own book and documentary recommendations on our suggestion board.
- Sustainable Freebies: Be one of the first students to borrow a book and receive a 3D-printed plant pot made from sustainable materials.
The Bigger Picture
This project is about more than just a week of activities—it’s about planting seeds of curiosity and responsibility. By engaging with these resources, we hope to inspire sustainable values that extend far beyond the library walls.
Sustainability is a journey, and it’s one we’re on together. Whether you’re a seasoned advocate or just starting to explore these ideas, this project is for you. Let’s use this opportunity to learn, connect, and take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future.
So, mark your calendars, visit the library, and join us in making sustainability a natural part of student life. Because change starts with us—and it starts with knowledge.
Let’s turn the page together.
