#Surrey50 Festival of Wonder | Get Involved on Social Media!

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock you’ve probably heard that on Saturday 13th May the university is holding one of the biggest events in our history – the Festival of Wonder. The day is set to be full of fun festivities to help us celebrate 50 years in Guildford.

Of course, the social media team will be there to cover the day online. We’ll be tweeting from both the @UniOfSurrey and @SurreyAlumni accounts, sharing photos from the day on Instagram (also on uniofsurrey and surreyalumni) and one of our social media student ambassadors will be kicking the day off with a Snapchat takeover. You can follow the coverage on the day with #Surrey50, and check back in the week following the event for video and photo highlights.

If you’re coming along on the day, either as a guest or a helper, then we’d like to encourage you all the get involved on social media too! Here are some things that you can do:

Live tweet the talks

They’ll be loads of talks going on throughout the day, so if you’ve been lucky enough to bag yourself a ticket then why not tweet some updates to share with your networks? Chances are they’ll be some great topics of interest discussed between Professor Jim Al-Khalili and his guests on Jim Meets, and an amazing performance from John Williams during his audience with – we’re sure your followers would love to find out what’s going on.

Share your pics

They’ll be loads of bright and colourful visual things going on throughout the day so be sure to get snapping! Post your best shots on Twitter or Instagram and tag #Surrey50 so we can find out what you’ve enjoyed the most. We’d love to share some of your pics on our channels as well so we’ll be looking out for them!

Check out our Snapchat filter

We’ll be having a special #Surrey50 Festival of Wonder Snapchat filter across both our campuses for the event. If you’re a snapper make sure you strike your best selfie pose and let your friends know what you’re up to!

Share our content

If you’re not at the event yourself, or you don’t have time to take your own pics or write a tweet, then we’d love for you to help us by sharing our content. Just keep an eye on our social channels throughout the day and share / retweet our posts.

And don’t forget…

Tag everything with #Surrey50!! Hashtags are a way of grouping related tweets together, and also increase the likelihood of someone beyond your following seeing your tweets. We want to try and build up as much of a buzz around #Surrey50 online as there will be at the event itself so make sure you get tagging.

We’re looking forward to sharing the event with you on social media!
