While looking at the universities what are the primary factors that we all usually consider? I believe factors like university ranking, campus building, facilities on the campus, location etc. play an important part when it comes to choosing a university to study in. Personally, for me location was one of the major considerations while looking into universities for my postgraduate studies and it is also the main reason I decided to come to Surrey, apart from its top ranking of course!
The University of Surrey is located in a small yet beautiful town, Guildford, which lies in the Southern part of England and is just 27 miles away from central London. The first thing I noticed about the town, when I got here, was its serenity which immediately made me fall in love with this place. The town itself is built on hills so there are quite a few places with breathtaking views. My personal favorite go to place, whenever I am bored, is the Guildford Castle which is situated in the town centre and is just a 15 minutes walk from the university. Although the castle itself is not that huge however, the view from there is absolutely stunning. One other place with an amazing view which I absolutely love is The Mount which is one of the highest points in Guildford. Its takes about 15-20 mins walk up the hill to get to The mount but the view from there makes it worth it.
The Town Centre of Guildford is just 15 mins away from the university and you can also get there by bus which passes by the university every 10 minutes. The town centre has got almost every shopping brand and there is also a mall i.e. The Friary Centre which has got shops such as Primark, Topshop, River Island, Mango, Levis and various other brands. Other than this the High street is full of cool designer brands and luxury retailers so there is something for every age group, style and budget. When it comes to food Guildford has a lot of variety of restaurants and cafes such as GBK, Nandos, Wagamama, Zizzi and so many other restaurants all around town so you definitely won’t go hungry! There are also a lot of clubs and bars in town where you can go and enjoy in the evenings or the weekends.
One of the things I like the most about Guildford is the fact that everything is nearby and easily accessible be it shops, restaurants, cafes or clubs which cuts down the travel time and hassle. London is also just 34 minutes away by train from here which means that you get the benefit of living in a peaceful town as well as enjoy the city life (London) at the same time.
