ตั้งแต่เรียนมัธยมจนจบป.ตรี พี่เดินทางไป-กลับบ้านตลอดเลยค่ะ เพราะฉะนั้นไม่ค่อยได้สัมผัสชีวิตเด็กหอเท่าไหร่ ดังนั้นการกลับมาสู่วัยเรียน และกลายเป็นเด็กหอเนี่ย บอกได้เลยว่าตื่นเต้นเหมือนกันนะ
University of Surrey มีหอพักสำหรับนักเรียนทั้งที่ Stag Hill, Manor Park แล้วก็ Hazel Farm ถ้าเรียงลำดับความใกล้สุดไปไกสสุดจากแคมปัสแล้วก็คือ:
Stag Hill > Manor Park > Hazel Farm
Stag Hill ก็คือแคมปัสหลัก
Manor Park เดินทางจากมหาลัยฯ ด้วยรถเมล์ประมาณ 10-15 นาที
Hazel Farm เดินทางจากมหาลัยฯ ด้วยรถเมล์ประมาณราว ๆ 30 นาที เท่าที่รู้มาก็คือนักเรียนที่พักที่นี่จะได้บัตรขึ้นรถเมล์ฟรีค่ะ เพราะว่าไกลเหลือเกิน…
การสมัครเข้าหอพักนั้นทำผ่านเว็บไซต์ >> https://www.surrey.ac.uk/accommodation โดยปกติแล้วจะเริ่มให้เลือกหอพักได้ตั้งแต่เดือนกุมภาพันธ์ยาว ๆ ไปจนถึงต้นเดือนสิงหาคมเลยค่ะ ซึ่งถ้าใครสมัครทันในช่วงนี้โดยเฉพาะคนที่เรียนเป็นปีแรกก็จะเกือบการันตีได้เลยว่าจะได้ที่พักค่ะ จากนั้นปลายเดือนสิงหาคมก็จะได้เมลแจ้งว่าเราได้ห้องพัก Band ไหน และแจ้งเดดไลน์การโอนค่ามัดจำเพื่อยืนยันห้องพักค่ะ
แล้วมีห้องพักทั้งหมดกี่ Band? คำตอบก็คือ ห้องพักของนักเรียนมีตั้งแต่ Band A – F เลย
Band A Shared: split level shared rooms / Budget Rooms
Band E: enhanced en-suite-rooms
พี่อยู่ Band D ที่ Manor Park อย่างที่เคยเล่าให้ฟังแล้ว ที่นี่เรียกชื่อเต็ม ๆ ก็คือ Manor Park Student Village เป็นหมู่บ้านของนักเรียนตามชื่อเลยค่ะ ในนี้จะมีตั้งแต่ Block A-H เลย แต่ละ Block จะมีหลายตึก และแต่ละตึกก็จะมีประมาณ 3 ชั้น แต่ละชั้นก็จะมีหลาย Flat และในแต่ละ Flat ก็จะมีห้องทั้งหมด 6-7 ห้องค่ะ
สำหรับพี่ พี่อยู่ Block A Ernst Chain Road ค่ะ ซึ่งใน Flat ของพี่จะมีห้องทั้งหมด 7 ห้อง แต่ว่ามีเพื่อนร่วม Flat 6 คนเอง มีห้องนึงที่ว่างไว้ เพื่อนร่วม Flat แต่ละคนน่ารักมากเลย ซึ่งมาจากคนละประเทศเลยค่ะ ทั้งรัสเซีย อาเซอร์ไบจาน กรีซ จีน แล้วก็ฮ่องกงค่ะ
ถึงแม้ว่า Band D จะได้ห้องพักเดี่ยว แต่ว่าก็ต้องแชร์ครัวใช้กันนะ ในห้องครัวจะมีตู้เย็น แล้วตู้แช่แข็งที่แบ่งชั้นไว้ชัดเจนเลย แล้วก็มีตู้เก็บอุปกรณ์ครัวของแต่ละคนเลย ไมโครเวฟ เครื่องปิ้งขนมปัง กาต้มน้ำ เตาไฟฟ้า เตาอบ แล้วก็เครื่องดูดควัน
ส่วนเรื่องการทิ้งขยะ จะมีเจ้าหน้าที่มาเก็บขยะทุก ๆ 2-3 วัน และมีคนทำความสะอาดห้องครั้วสัปดาห์ละครั้ง
ดังนั้นหมายความว่าสิ่งที่เราต้องซื้ออย่างแน่นอนเลยก็คือ จาน ชาม หม้อ กระทะ ตะหลิว ช้อนส้อม มีด เขียง (และในกรณีคนเอเชีย ก็จะมีหม้อหุงข้าวด้วย 5555+ เรายังไม่เคยเห็นเพื่อนรัสเซีย อาเซอร์ไบจาน และกรีซหุงข้าวเลยอะ)
เรื่องต่อไปที่ไม่พูดไม่ได้เลยก็คือ…ซักผ้ายังไงล่ะ? ใครใคร่ซักมือซัก ใครใคร่ซักเครื่องก็ตามมาค่ะ 5555+
Manor Park มีห้องซักผ้าอยู่ 2 ที่ค่ะ คือตรง Alexander Flaming Road (ตรงข้ามกับ Reception) แล้วก็ที่ Ronald Road เครื่องซักผ้าที่นี่ใช้ระบบออนไลน์ค่ะ (สารภาพว่าอะเมซซิ่งมากตอนเห็นวันแรก ๆ เหมือนบ้านนอกเข้ากรุงสุด 555+) สามารถจ่ายเงินผ่าน app หรือผ่านบัตรของเครื่องซักผ้าค่ะ นั่นหมายความว่าเป็นการจ่ายเงินออนไลน์นั่นเอง
ค่าซักต่อครั้งอยู่ที่ 2.3 ปอนด์ อบอีก 1.2 ปอนด์ ซักผ้าครั้งหนึ่งก็จะเสียไปอย่างน้อย 3.5 ปอนด์… ตีเป็นเงินบาทแล้วถึงขั้นปาดเหงื่อ เพราะฉะนั้นซักสัปดาห์ละครั้งพอนะคะ…

From high school until graduated from university, I’ve never stayed at a dormitory. So, I’ve to admit that being a student again and staying in the university’s accommodation really excite me.
University of Surrey offers accommodation for students at Stag Hill, Manor Park and Hazel Farm. Stag Hill is the main campus, while Manor Park is far from the university around 10-15 minutes by bus. And, Hazel Farm, the farthest, will take you around 30 minutes to reach the main campus. But, I heard that if you stay here, you’ll get the free bus pass.
You can apply for accommodations vis website https://www.surrey.ac.uk/accommodation . Normally, the application will open from around February until August. First year here will be guaranteed for accommodations! Then, around at the end of August, you’ll receive an e-mail informing what Band of room you will get, as well as a deadline of deposit to confirm your room.
Question: How many rooms Band?
Answer: Band A to Band F!
Band A Shared: split level shared rooms / Budget Rooms
Band E: enhanced en-suite-rooms
For me, as mentioned before, I stayed in Band D room at Manor Park Student Village. Yes, it’s Student Village! There’re many blocks inside this village and each block has many buildings. Each building has around 3 floors and each floor divides into approximately 2-3 flats. And each flat has around 6-7 rooms.
I stay in Block A, Ernst Chain Road. There’re 7 rooms in my flat, but only 6 flat mates (apparently 1 room is empty.) My flat mates are very lovely and friendly. They’re from Russia, Azerbaijan, Greece, Hong Kong and China.
Although Band D room is an en-suite rooms, we still have to share a kitchen. In the kitchen, there’re fridge, freezer (with individual drawer), individual cabinets, microwave, toaster, kettle, electronic stove, oven and cooker hood.
The trash will be emptied every 2-3 days and the kitchen will be cleaned once a week. So, don’t worry 🙂
This means what we definitely have to buy are plates, spoons, forks and all kitchenware. If you’re Asian, you may want to buy a rice cooker! You can order online from Amazon or buy it at Asian store.
And the next thing cannot be missed…is the laundry! How can we do the laundry? I don’t mind if you want to wash your cloth by hands, but for me…yes, I choose using the washing machine.
There’re 2 laudrette rooms on Alexander Flaming Road (opposite the reception) and Ronald Ross Road. You can pay for the laundry via online system through its application or cash card.
How much is the laundry for each time?
Well…the washing starts from 2.3 pounds and the dryer is 1.2 pounds. So, all together will be at least 3.5 pounds for each time. So, I’d like to recommend doing the laundry only once a week…
