Umarım hepiniz iyisinizdir ve güzel bir gün geçiriyorsunuzdur. Uzun bir süredir sizlerle iletişimde olduğum için fark ettiğim tekrarlayan bir kaç sorular olduğunun farkına vardım. Bu blog postumda yurt ile ilgili bana sorulan en sık soruları yanıtlamak ve sizi daha da bilgilendirmek istiyorum. • S: Yurtlarda kız yurdu/ erkek yurdu gibi bir ayrım var mı?
• C: Üniverstemizde yurt seçimlerinde kız yurdu erkek yurdu gibi bir ayrım yok ve bundan dolayı da yurt başvurusu yaparken öyle bir tercih yapma şansımız yok. Ama bildiğim kadarıyla eğerki ortaklaşa bir oda denk gelirse istekte bulunabiliyorsunuz.
• S: Yurt için eşya olarak yanımda ne getirmeliyim?
• C: Şimdi bu sorunun cevabı biraz uzun olabilir bu yüzden kategorilere ayırarak yanıtlıcam. Mutfak için; mutfaklarda fırın, buzdolabı, buzluk, kettle ve mikrodalga fırın dışında başka bir eşya yok. Bundan dolayı da işte tabak, tencere, tava, çatal, bıçak, kaşık, bardak, kupa, fırın eldiveni, mutfak havlusu vs aklınıza gelebilcek diğer her türlü mutfak eşyasını kendiniz alması gerekiyor. Fakat size önerim bunları Türkiye’den veya Kıbrıs’tan getirmek değil, buraya geldiğinizde burdan satın almak. Hem boşu boşuna bavulunuzda yer kaplayıp ağırlık yapmaz hem de burdan almak daha ucuza gelcektir. Kıyafet için; tahmin edebileceğiniz üzere İngiltere çok güneşli veya sıcak bir ülke değil. 18-20 dereceyi gördüğümüz zaman seviniyoruz hava sıcak diye öyle diyim 🙂 Guildford’un da havasını aynı şekilde bazen güneşli, çoğu zaman soğuk bir sonbahar, kış aylarında daha soğuk olarak tanımlayabilirim. Bundan dolayı da işte kazaklar, kapüşonlular, uzun kollular çoğunlukla olmak üzere bir bavul hazırlayabilirsiniz. Yağmurluk ve montunuzu unutmayın ve tabiki araya bir iki tshirt veya kısa kollu da serpiştirin güneşli olan günler için veya gece dışarı çıkarken vs giyecebilceğiniz. Banyo/duş; geldiğinizde kendi havlu, bornoz, şampuan, krem, vücut yıkama jelinizi almanız gerekicek, şahsi tavsiyem burdan duş için ayrıca ucuz bi terlik de alın özellikle ortak duş olan yurtlar (Band A, Band B ve Band C) denk gelirse diye extra bir önerim hijyen bakımından. Onun dışında da yatak örtüsü yatak kılıfı vs ayrıca satın almanız gerekicek.
• S: Yurt parasını karşılayabilcek herhangi bir burs var mı?
• C: Maalesef, okulumuzda yurtlar için herhangi bir burs yok ama farklı yurt tipleri için farklı fiyat aralıkları var. Bu fiyatları ve ne zaman ödeme yapılcağını https://www.surrey.ac.uk/accommodation/prices-and-payment sitesinden bulabilirsiniz.
• S: Oda fiyatları içerine faturalar ve internet parası dahil mi?
• C: Evet yurt fiyatları içersinde elektrik, sıcak su, ısıtma ve internet dahildir bu yüzden o konuda endişelenmenize gerek yok. Internet için de ayrıca bilgilendirme olması için söyleyeyim: Odanıza ilk geldiğinizde internet hazır kurulu bir biçimde olmadığı için odanıza yerleştiğinizde odanızda bulabileceğiniz karşılama kutularından birinde modem ve kablolar mevcuttur. Onları kullanarak kendinizin internetinizi kurmanız gerekicek ama merak etmeyin yapması çok kolay ya da benim gibi yapmaya üşenirseniz yurt arkadaşlarınızdan birinden rica edebilirsiniz 🙂

Hope you are all doing well and having a great day. As I have had this position of being an International Ambassador for a long time now, I have realised there have been some repeating questions about the accommodations at our university. So, I would like to make a hopfully informmational blog post where I answer some of these frequently asked questions I have been getting. If you have any other questions that you can’t see here please feel free to drop me an email at turkey@surrey.ac.uk. I will be writing the FAQ’s and their answers in bulletpoints below and hope that you will find these useful.

• Q: Is there a separation of girls’ and boys’ dormitories?
• A: There isn’t a separation between girls’ and boys’ flats but I believe you can make a request if you get a shared room.
• Q: What should I bring with me when I am moving into my accom for the first time?
• A: The answer to this question is going to be fairly long one. That is why I am going to categorise the things you should bring. For the kitchen: the kitchens in the accoms already have an oven, a microwave oven, a kettle, a fridge and a freezer. Therefore you should buy you own plates, kitchenware, cutlery, pans, pots, tea towels, oven gloves, mugs etc. I would not recommend anyone to bring any kitchenware from their home countries as it will be really heavy for the suitcase plus they take a lot of space. It is a lot cheaper to buy them from here as well. Clothes; as you can imagine the UK is not known for its sunny warm days and Guildford is not different from this expectation. We get happy thinking we are living the summer if we get 18-20 Celcius degrees here 🙂  If I were to briefly explain how the weather is here in Guildford, I would say it is a mixture of mainly autumn days that are on the colder side, some random sunny days and proper cold days in the winter. That’s why I would say your suitcase should mainly consist of long sleeved tops, sweaters, jumpers and hoodies. Of course, don’t forget to bring a raincoat and a warm jacket for colder days. Still, add a couple of nice tshirts and short sleeved tops for the sunny days and for let’s say if you want to go out. Bathroom: You are gonna have to buy your own towels, bathrobe, shampoo, conditioner and body gels. I am gonna also give you an insider tip: if you happen to get a type of halls that has shared showers & toilets (Band A, Band B & Band C) I would suggest buying a cheap pair of slippers to wear in the shower for hygiene reasons. For the room: the beds in the room are only the headset and a mattress, hence you need to buy your own duvet, pillow and bedsheets. Other than that, you will need to buy your own bedsheet, pillow covers and duvet covers.
• Q: Is there a type of bursary that can cover the accommodation fees? 
• A: Unfortunately, there is not a bursary that covers the accom fees but on the bright side there are different types of rooms that you can get which vary in prices. • Q: Does the rent for the accommodation include bills and internet? 
• A: Yes, the fee you will be paying for your accommodation include the internet, hot water, heating and electricity so it’s really easy and you don’t need to deal with paying different fees. Furthermore, as an extra useful sidenote: The internet will not be actually set up in your room when you first move in but it will be available to set up immediately in one of the welcome packs that you can find in your room. This box will have the router, cables and instructions so it is really easy to do it yourself. However, if you are like me and don’t want to deal with that you can always ask your flatmates 🙂

These are all the FAQ’s I can think of the top of my head at the moment.
