MY EXPERIENCE AS A MEDIA AND COMMUUNICATIONS STUDENT…

So, what’s good, everybody? That’s right, your favourite person here, Olukayode Osunkeye and today, I want to give you a perception of what it means studying Media and Communications at Surrey University. In case you’re one of those who’ve been pondering over the major in media and comms, no—it definitely doesn’t mean just sitting around and watching Netflix and scrolling through TikTok all day. Though if that were the case in the first place, it’d be absolutely great with me! Within my studies, I was able to engage in some very intriguing modules:

Youth, Culture, and Media looks at the way social media is affecting young people right now. Public Relations in the Digital Age is a module that lets you understand how these brands go about convincing us to buy stuff we don’t even need. (I have fallen in love with this myself sometimes! 😂) For the Music, Media, and Society acting subject matter, the most transformative module would have to be Music, Media, and Society. It really gets one to think about their Apple Music playlist and trace back the history and lanes the music played in developing a particular culture. Surprisingly, these have been quite significant.

But it’s not all about lectures and essays! University life makes a situation where students can build friendships across the globe and, believe me, a cheeky Nando’s post-lecture. It has been an ambitious adventure as well as a challenge-filled experience to have studied in a foreign land and faced with the unpredictable weather of the UK. Being an international student has been an engaging experience full of challenges, from adapting to the weather in the UK to learning to balance academic studies and creating content.

The real fun comes when I take that learning and put it into practice. Doin’ it! The course helps me love each activity from video creation to social media management, for it bridges theoretical knowledge with practical experiences. Being introduced to the art of storytelling, video making, and having a piece of your dream—these are all that this course does for everyone.

Get into studying Media and Communication—it really is an amazing choice. It’s a course that changes your perception on this current media and digital age. It’s the final update, guys, but please do comment, like, and tell me what you would want me to cover next! 😎✌️
