“Breaking Down My PR Campaign: What I Learned from ‘Arsenal: More Than a Club'”

Oh, totally! That whole Arsenal PR project I did for my final year at Surrey? Man, it was actually such a fun ride. Didn’t think I’d enjoy it that much at the start, but it turned into one of my favourite projects, hands down.

I picked Arsenal ‘cause they’re way more than just a football club. They’re all about the people—community stuff, culture, looking out for each other. Like, they help out with local schools, talk about mental health (which is huge, honestly), and actually stand up against racism. So I was like, why not show all that off in a campaign that feels fresh and real?

My whole angle was making Arsenal feel less like just a sports team, more like a lifestyle brand that Gen Z would actually want to follow. So I threw in loads of fun stuff—TikTok trends, Insta Reels, podcast ideas where fans take over and have a laugh. Even pitched some collabs with Black-owned fashion brands and included stories from real fans in the area. Just trying to give it that real community vibe, you know?

What surprised me? How much PR is about feelings, not just making things look good. Like, you want people to get excited, feel proud, maybe even a bit inspired. I won’t lie, my ideas were all over the place at first, but my lecturer helped me focus on the main message, and it all started coming together.

If I could go back, I’d probably try and show off the results more—like, stats on how many people would watch or buy stuff. But honestly? Still super proud of it.

Doing this project just reminded me why I love media so much. It’s not just about making content. It’s about stories, people, and bringing everyone together—even if you don’t care about football at all.

So yeah, here’s to Arsenal, a bit of creativity, and making it through university!
