New Catalogue: Carol-Lynne Moore Collection

University of Surrey Archives and Special Collections are pleased to announce the release of the first catalogue for the Carol-Lynne Moore Collection. Read on to discover more about this fantastic archive, which is now made available to researchers for the first time.

We are delighted to begin 2026 by announcing the release of our latest archive catalogue. The Carol-Lynne Moore Collection is an archive collection and research resource assembled by the American movement analyst, consultant and lecturer Carol-Lynne Moore. The core of the collection consists of Moore’s own professional archive, generated over the course of her career. The collection also contains a wider body of documentary evidence and research material relating to the history and development of Movement Pattern Analysis (MPA), and to Laban movement studies more generally.

Documents from the collection, including a published book, a Korean-language instruction, an ID badge, and a photograph featuring three people.

Moore’s collection complements many of our existing holdings, including the Rudolf Laban Archive, the Warren Lamb Archive and the Motus Humanus Archive. It is therefore an excellent resource for students of Laban movement theory, and its applications in the field of management consultancy. The collection documents the evolution of Action Profiling, a methodology devised by Warren Lamb and Pamela Ramsden to assess decision-making styles, and its subsequent development through the work of Action Profilers International in the 1970s and 1980s. It further charts Moore’s continuing work on MPA (as Lamb’s method became known as after 1992) through to the present day.

A key feature of the collection is its documentary focus on the development of training material for practitioners, including materials produced by Moore herself. These offer a fascinating insight into the history of the profession, and also provide an accessible introduction to the key concepts of MPA. Another area of strength is the collection’s series on research into Action Profiling and MPA, including efforts to critically assess the validity and reliability of the techniques.

The collection also illustrates some of the unique ways in which theories of movement analysis have been applied. A particular highlight of the collection is the material relating to Moore’s work on the ALEADMOVE project and other studies at the Naval War College of the United States, which included the remote assessment of world leaders to derive insights into their decision-making.

We anticipate that the collection will continue to grow in the coming years as additional donations are recieved, and further updates to the catalogue will be published in due course.
