Introducing you to the newest society at the University of Surrey, the West Indian Society!

While studying at Surrey I witnessed a gap in representation for Caribbean students on campus. This year, I was proudly a part of the first ever West Indian Society at the university where I not only had the pleasure of meeting other students from the Caribbean, but I joined the committee as Secretary.
In my committee role, I handled the general organisation & administration of the society, such as passing information from emails to signatories, booking rooms for events and arranging meetings and taking minutes and responding to emails and direct messages. I also designed, managed and maintained the society website.
At the 2024 Union Ball, the society won best new society which was a huge accomplishment for many of our small islands! Events hosted this academic year include a meet & greet, bake sale, movie night and the biggest of them all, Stag Hill Carnival!

The West Indian Society aims to promote and educate others on the diversity and inclusivity of West Indian culture and heritage while also building a connection between the islands and the University of Surrey.
It is a place where students of the West Indian diaspora can get together and celebrate our culture and heritage with others here at Surrey.
The society is bringing the vibes of the Caribbean to Surrey with some exciting events and activities.
