如果你已经受够了学校、城镇及周边的爬坡上坎，起起伏伏的地形，可以把目光放到城镇北部的郊野。今天我介绍给大家的就是Whitmoor common郊野保护区，它坐落在吉尔福德的正北方向，离萨里大学距主校区最远的Hazel Farm宿舍区很近，这里地势平坦，林木丰茂，有专门规划或铺设的徒步与骑行小径，对于不习惯爬坡上下的人群来说，这里是理想的周末游憩休闲之地。

A circular trail around the nature reserves of Whitmoor Common and Jordan Hill in Surrey. The area comprises beautiful expanses of heathland, woodland, grassland, ponds and streams. The place is a generally quite lovely, very peaceful open place and connected with some well-maintained pedestrian paths. From here, you can experience a very authentic British rural feeling. In surrounding areas of the Whitmoor common reserve, there are many countryside golf clubs, vegetable and flower greenhouse plantations, as well as horse and cattle farms. The residential areas, woodlands, fields and pastures are organized in an orderly manner, like a stretch of rural paintings, bringing people in close contact with nature.

The heathland is home to a range of animals, birds and insects giving a rare habitat for night jars, dragonflies and water voles to thrive. If you’re luck, you probably can see some deer crossing the woods very quickly. In early spring and autumn, and there are groups of migratory birds come to stop, rest, and eat here in surrounding water-rich areas, which bring bunch of photographers to here as well. You can see lots of amazing pictures of birds taken by the locals from Internet. The common is very popular with dog walkers and makes a great place to meet up with friends, but the expanse of area means that those preferring their own company can also enjoy a peaceful walk.
在whitmoor保护区，有多种类型的行车步道和自行车道，包括林间野路和精心搭建且维护良好的木制步道，每隔一段距离都有一些公共座椅或板凳提供给游人停歇。步行或骑行沿着荒地和林地步道行驶，有些地方的地形会比较崎岖，但整体而言，步行还是比较轻松的，非常适合腿脚不方便的老人来这里漫步和散心。需要注意的是，其中有些道路在冬天雨季或潮湿的天气后会变得非常松软泥泞，如果步行的话，建议此时使用防水靴；如果选择骑行来这里，一定要注意鉴别和判断道路的可通行性，绕过泥泞路段。Whitmoor保护区旁边有停车场，所以也可以选择驾车前往。停车场内有时会有小货车在此停留售卖食品饮料。在阳光明媚的夏日，可能有时停车场会变得非常拥挤和繁忙，需要等候很久才能有空的停车位，所以如果选择自驾，一定要提前计划好行程。
Within the Whitmoor reserve, there are many types of roads and bicycle paths, including forest roads and well-built and maintained wooden walkways, and some bench seats dotted around. When walking or riding through the wasteland and woodland trails, terrains of some places perhaps will be rough, but overall, walking is relatively easy here. So basically Whitmoor common is a very ideal place to walk and relax for elderly people who have bad knees. But there’s one thing have to be aware of is, the walkway which follows heath and woodland paths, some of which can get quite muddy in the rainy winter and after wet weather so good waterproof boots are recommended at these times. In addition to this, if you going for a bike ride over there, some part of cycling path need to be paid attention to, even bypath it if necessary. In outside of the whitmoor common there are some car park spaces, parking is basically free and food & drinks are available sometimes when the can is there. However, sometimes it can get super busy and you have to wait for a while to get an available parking space, so please plan your trip carefully beforehand. There are a few steady climbs and descents and no stiles or gates. The common is used to graze rare breed cattle during the summer months so take care with children and dogs around the electric fences.
