Celebrating the Recent Publication of work by a Surrey Black Scholar, Jacqueline Bleicher, co-authored with Professor Prashant Kumar.

Climate Change endangers 3.6 billion lives worldwide, especially in coastal cities, an urgent call for action. Urban areas must transform to become climate resilient and sustainable. Following PRISMA-SCR methodology,  Jacqueline Bleicher and Professor Prashant Kumar review and identify key urban design principles that resolve regional climate hazards, identified by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The authors propose a climate resilient sustainable urbanism framework which operates across various urban scales from street to region. The urban neighbourhood is prioritised as a design unit that can be scaled to various population densities. Neighbourhood clusters comprise villages, towns and cities. The related toolkit of spatial metrics guides the design of climate resilient sustainable urban neighbourhoods. Indicators facilitate the evaluation of a successful design or urban transformation of existing urban neighbourhoods. The research outputs have the potential to improve urban design practice and the policies or regulations that shape the urban built environment. Publication is a route to disseminate the research which spanned several months. The article was accepted by Sustainable Cities and Society after major structural revisions and minor changes. Improving through constructive feedback is part of the publication process. Persevere, write and publish.
