New Collaborative Feminist Literary History Project Announcement

In 2023 I was invited to collaborate on a four-volume history of women’s writing in the British Isles from the medieval period to the present based on data from The Orlando Project. I have joined a team of nine other scholars: Kanika Batra, Katherine Binhammer, Karen Bourrier, Susan Brown, Isobel Grundy, Miranda Hickman, Kathryn Holland, Maryse Jayasuriya and Anthony Mandal. The volumes will be published by Cambridge University Press. I am working with Katherine Binhammer and Isobel Grundy on the first volume in the series on women’s writing before 1800.  Katherine has received funding for volume 1 from the  Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The project’s research methods combine digital textbase searches with our scholarly knowledge to uncover patterns in the material conditions that have made women’s writing possible and, by paying attention to intersectionality, to reframe women’s literary history for a contemporary audience.
