English at Surrey University has risen an astonishing 57 places in the most recent Guardian Good University Guide. English at Surrey is now ranked 37th out of 102 English programmes in the UK. This places English at Surrey above highly regarded BAs at the Universities of Reading, Sheffield and Manchester. This is a remarkable achievement given that the English schemes were only introduced at Surrey in 2008. The Guardian league table draws in part on results taken from the National Student Survey, and 91% of English students at Surrey were satisfied with the quality of their teaching. Surrey English also scored exceptionally highly in terms of the value-added score that compares students’ entry qualifications with their final degree results. The score of 9/10 means that our students gained exceptionally good degree results. In the table there is no score yet for employability–with our first cohort of students only recently graduating that information is not yet available. We fully expect to climb even further in the league table once that information is published!
