The English Literature and Creative Writing programmes at the University of Surrey have again seen very pleasing improvement in their levels of student satisfaction, according to the National Student Survey (NSS) results released this week.
Completed in their final year of study by students across the country, the NSS is designed to provide students a chance to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the programme of study they have just completed – and thus gives potential future students (and parents) a snapshot of the way the students of an institutional themselves feel about their university, department and programme.
Here at the University of Surrey, we are delighted to announce that of the graduating year this year, 99% of English Literature students who replied to the survey praised the teaching on their course, with 100% agreeing that staff made the subject interesting, staff made the subject interesting and the course was intellectually stimulating. Since we pride ourselves on the supportive atmosphere at Surrey, and in making ourselves available to our students for consultation, it was also pleasing to note that 100% of English Literature students found that when they wanted or needed to contact staff they could. Overall, satisfaction with the English Literature Programme at the University of Surrey was a remarkable 96%!
We also saw a further rise in satisfaction levels from last year amongst our students on the English Literature with Creative Writing Programme – an impressive 86% of students on this programme were satisfied overall with the module, with students identifying the enthusiasm of lecturers, the teaching quality and the ability of staff to clearly explain things as particular strengths of the programme.
As a programme director at the University of Surrey, it is fantastic to hear that students have enjoyed taking these programmes as much as we have enjoyed designing and teaching them. As we wish our satisfied graduating students all the best for the future, we look forward to greeting the next generation of Surrey University English Literature and Creative Writing students as they embark on with us on the university careers.
