こんにちは、また久しぶりになってしまいましたが！！！ 私の学部も昨日でテストが終わり、2年の後期も終了となりました。まだ実感が薄いところですが、なんとなくテストのストレスからも解放されて気持ちも落ち着いてきたところです。そんな今日は、テスト期間のことを簡単に書いていきたいと思います。
Hello! I hadn’t written for such a long time again…how are you doing? Surrey is having such a lovely weather these days; the average highest temperature is around 23℃ with consecutive sunny/cloudy days (not much rainy days). And the most exciting thing in the UK is the long daytime; it’s really amazingly long for a person from Tokyo, Japan; sunset here is 21:17 today whilst it is 18:57 in Tokyo, making me feel wield, amazed and excited. If you are from Tokyo, you would have to say “oh it’s already 9pm!? I cannot believe that!” for every single day.
Anyway, I just finished the exams on the day before yesterday, 11th June!!! At Surrey, exams started from the end of May, after the week called “Revision Week”, which is the week for exam revision and no lecture would happen during the time. So I had three weeks to study for exam without having any lecture……such a long exam period!!
The library had been always full of students studying, especially during the noon. I would recommend Library+ to use for study; the university offers additional studying space during the exam period in AC building which is next to the library. I felt Library+ was less busy (I don’t know how it will go next year though!!)
But even though it’s a exam period, only thinking about exam for three weeks would make you tired unless you really love exam. I know some students took a short trip during the exam period, which could be a good way to manage stress. I did the similar thing when I was in Foundation course; a day trip to London just two days before the exam was very refreshing though I was too tired to study on the next day. Anyway, don’t be stressed out too much!!! Or you will wake up to find that your brain does not accept any English on the day of the exam which was me on the day before yesterday.
1. 日程
サリーでは、テストはだいたいの学部で5月終わりから6月の初めの3週間のなかにまとめられています。今年は5月28日～6月15日の3週間。また、このひとつ前「Revision Week」となっていて、レクチャーもテストもない週となっていました。カレンダーにまとめてみると、
テスト期間、長いです！
私は「Technology, Media and Data」と「Managing Organisations and Human Resources (MOHR)」のふたつの科目で試験があり、どちらも6月11日でした。最後のレクチャーが終わってから「テスト勉強」期間が3週間……長かった。この期間中に数泊の小旅行に出かけたという人がいたようなのを聞いたりも。3週間ずっと勉強し通しも疲れるので、そういうのもありなのかもですね。私もファウンデーション在学時、テスト2日前にロンドンに日帰りで行ったりしていました。逆に体が疲れて翌日は勉強どころではなくなっていたけれど……。
ということで、サリーに来る方、割かし長期戦となる後期のテストは、適度に息抜きをしながら頑張っていきましょう。
また、各科目のテストの時間割が出されたのは、今年は4月20日のことで、そういったところも余裕があるというか、予定を立てやすいスケジュールになっているような気がします。
2. テストの形式
他の学部（特に理系科目）のことはあまり詳しくはないのですが、テストはだいたい「選択問題形式」か「エッセイ形式」かに分かれます。今回の私のテストでは、「Technology, Media and Data」が選択問題、「Managing Organisations and Human Resources」がエッセイ形式でした。
選択問題
選択問題はだいたい4択、30問～50問程度で、試験時間は1時間～1時間半。今回のTechnology, Media and Dataのテストは、選択問題40問で1時間でした。あまり細かいところを訊くような問題ではなくて、理解を確認するような問題。過去問は科目によって貰えたり貰えなかったりです。
エッセイ形式
MOHRのテストでは、6題のなかから2題を選んでエッセイ形式で答える、というものでした。エッセイ問題というとどのくらい書けば良いのだろう……というのはテストに関する質疑応答の時に話題になるのですが、MOHRの教授は「長さよりもどれだけポイントを押さえているかが大事」と言っていました。別の科目、前期の「Economics」でエッセイ形式のテストをしたときには「各問に対して見開き1ページでだいたい十分」と言われたり、また別の科目「Tourism Policy and Development」では、「採点基準（例：Understanding 25%, Critical Argument 30%, The Use of Real-World Examples 20%, Conclusions 15%, Structure and Presentation 10%）も一緒に置くからそれに合わせて書くかが大事」と言われたり、その辺を色々見てみると、点数に繋がるような回答の書き方が見えてくる……？ような気もします。……という点数のために大学で勉強しているわけではなくとも、できれば良い点数は取りたいような気持ち。
3. 図書館、Library＋
前述したように長いテスト期間ですが、図書館はすごく混みます！！！ ひろびろとした場所で勉強したい……とも言っていられないほど、そもそも空いている席が見つからないほどに、席が埋まっていました。みんなすごく勉強家なんだなと触発される瞬間。すごい。
と、感嘆してばかりというわけにもいかないのですが……それでもLibrary+のほうは比較的空いていました。テスト期間は、図書館棟の正面にあるAC Buildingという建物の3階部分が「Library+」として開放されます。恐らく今年（2017-2018年度）から導入されたシステム。小さなセミナールームがそれぞれ勉強用スペースとして開放されていて、図書館が混んでいる場合はこちらもおすすめです。

自動消灯の仕組みになっている部屋は、人が少ないときにあまり存在感を消し過ぎると、電気が10分毎に消えてしまうのですけれどね！
それでも満席の図書館よりは落ち着く場所でした。
