Your questions answered – Communication and International Marketing

Before studying for a masters in Communication and International Marketing you probably have a few questions. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about our programmes.

Does the CIM programme offer a placement option?

Unfortunately, the CIM programme does not offer a placement option. However, our employability and careers service can support you in finding part-time employment or placement and work experience opportunities, although these depend on your visa status.

What modules will I study?

The full course structure is published on the programme website. In each semester, you’ll study three compulsory modules and you can select one optional module.

How much of my time will be spent in lectures and seminars?

You will take four modules per semester. Each module has 2-3 hours per week of class time which compromises of lectures and seminars.

How much time should I be spending working independently/studying?

The majority of your time in this degree course will be spent on independent learning activities. For each module, you should spend about 120 hours working and studying independently.

Do I have to do a dissertation and can I decide my dissertation topic?

Yes, the course includes a dissertation. You will need to decide on your own dissertation topic, but your tutors will support you on this, and there are also dissertation preparation sessions.

How much is the dissertation worth and how long do I have to write it?

The dissertation is worth 60 credits, a third of your total credits. You will have approximately three months to write it (starting after summer exams and finishing in September), but you’ll start the process of engaging with your dissertation at the beginning of Semester 2.

What employment opportunities does this degree programme open up?

Graduates from this course have gone on to pursue careers in International Marketing, Business Consultancy, Coaching and Training etc.
