Who knew that a young boy with a passion for swimming and a determination to succeed, was enough to make history at this year’s 2016 Olympics in RIO.
Singapore has been rejoicing (and still is) about 21-year old Olympic super-swimmer, Joseph Schooling after he won Singapore our first GOLD medal, and even beating his idol, Michael Phelps aka. legendary US Swimmer who has won several Gold medals previously.
He swam his way to victory at a timely speed of 50.39s in the 100m Butterfly.
And as you can imagine, Singaporeans went crazy for these four digits and headed straight to the betting stores with their hopes high, hoping that their determination to win (like Schooling’s) would score them the winning 4D or TOTO digits!
but alas the odds were not in their favour. haha stay in cool kids, don’t gamble!
Joseph Schooling returned to Singapore after his victorious win in Rio, to face screaming girls and of course his victory parade that was arranged for him to meet his supporters all over Singapore!
My younger sister was one of the lucky few who got to meet him! She was in line at Raffles City, a shopping mall in central Singapore from the second the mall was open, which scored her to be first in line for a meet and greet session with Schooling!
Since she was the first, she was naturally the media’s focus because of her determination to get a minute with Schooling! I mean, it’s just 5 hours in line…. pshft…. who would actually do that…. just kidding haha (I was at work sadly, or I would’ve definitely been queing to congratulate him as well!)
Here are some pics of how her meeting went down!
So that’s what you get ladies and gentlemen… what a little determination and cheeky smiling can help you to acheive what you came for!
Here are some more articles featuring my mummy and sister who got featured in almost all of Singapore’s media!

and these are just a few of the lot!
I couldn’t be happier for my little sister getting to meet Schooling after hearing her tell me every detail she’s read up about him day and night. haha
Schooling has inspired Singaporeans from all walks of life that it is possible to acheive what you want when you dedicate your heart, soul and time to reaching that goal. As long as you stay focused and pick yourself up from tripping over the hurdles along the way and NEVER GIVE UP.
Congratulations JOSEPH SCHOOLING! You’ve put Singapore on the Olympic map and proved that we are not just a small city state in South East Asia. Instead we are “THE” small city state in South East Asia, called Singapore.
Thanks for reading 🙂 !
