Hello everyone 🙂 I hope this blog is helpful to the readers. I’m Yumin Baek, a 2nd year of International tourism management and from South Korea. Currently living in Guildford and enjoying our covid safe university library. For my first blog post, I want to share my 2020 Christmas experience at our university. 

As an international student in the UK alone, I worried that my Christmas would be dull and lonely this year. However, one day, I got an email that the university is preparing a free Christmas and boxing day meal for students staying in Guildford. At first, I wasn’t sure, but I decided to enjoy free Christmas food with the movie called ‘The Grinch’.

On Christmas day, when I got into the Marquee where the free meal was being given, I was surprised to see three things. 

• First, how the Marquee was Covid secure. 
• Second, how Marquee was decorated with all cute Christmas decorations. 
• Third, the quality of the food. 

As I walked in, the food boxes on the table were all set according to the number of students booked. I was amazed by the food. The main meal box contained four kinds of different sandwiches, including turkey to commemorate the festive season! Many other desserts were waiting for me like fancy white chocolate, apple cinnamon drinks, gingerbread cookie with lemon curd, scones with jam, fruits, pudding and hot chocolate kit. The quality and taste of the food were fancy and fabulous :)!

Also, on the Christmas day, in front of the hive, warm drinks were served with presents by the university chaplaincy team, and I won ￡5 Sainsbury’s voucher and little gifts were in the library as well 🙂

On Boxing day, I took a free meal again from the Marquee. The menu was different, and this time, the theme was Spain. I had Chicken Paella with drinks, chips, different kind of hams and churros with Nutella and of course, the food was terrific and tasty. 

I could tell that I had an amazing Christmas and boxing day. The university’s tremendous efforts made this possible. I appreciate this as warm memory at university.

안녕하세요 여러분!! 이 블로그가 졸업생, 현재 그리고 미래의 학생들 또는 써리 대학에 관심이 있는 모든 분들께 도움이 되길 바라면서 제 첫 블로그를 시작할께요. 저는 백유민, 관광학부 2학년에 재학하는 한국인입니다. 현재 길포드에서 학생이 많이 없어 널널한 학교 도서관을 즐기는 중이에요. 제 첫 블로그는 학교에서 보낸 이번 크리스마스에 관해 써볼려고 해요.

가족은 모두 한국에 있고, 저만 영국 거주중이어서, 이번 크리스마스는 지루하고 또 많이 외로울것 같았어요. 하지만 학교에서 무료로 크리스마스 점심을 제공한다는 이메일을 받고 ‘그린치’라는 영화 시간대에 맞춰 예약했어요.

크리스마스 당일, Marquee에 처음 들어갔을때 3가지에 놀랐는데,

• 첫째, 코로나부터 안전하게 테이블 거리 띄워두기,
• 둘째, 귀여운 크리스마스 데코레이션,
• 셋째, 음식의 맛과 퀄리티에 놀랐어요.

Marquee에 들어갔을 때, 음식은 이미 우리가 예약한 사람 수에 맞춰 준비되있었고, 음식은 4개의 다른 종류의 샌드위치 (여기선 크리스마스에 칠면조를 먹는게 전통이라, 칠면조 샌드위치도 있었어요) 그리고 디저트는 비싸보이던 화이트 초콜릿, 애플 시나몬 주스, 진저브레드와 레몬 커스타드, 스콘과 잼, 푸딩 그리고 핫초코 키트까지 너무 푸짐했어요. 음식의 맛과 퀼리티에 저와 제 친구들 모두 놀랬답니다!!

그리고 크리스마스 당일날, Hive 앞에서 따뜻한 음료와 크리스마스 선물을 주시는 분이 계셨는데, 저는 Sainsbury ￡5 바우처를 받았고, 도서관에서도 조그만 선물이 있었어요 🙂

Boxing day에도 학교에서 무료 제공한 음식을 먹었는데, 이 날은 스페인 음식이었어요. 치킨 빠에아와 음료, 감자튀김, 여러 종류의 햄 그리고 누텔라와 츄로스!! 음식도 너무 맛있었어요.

학교에서 신경 많이 써준 덕분에, 따뜻한 크리스마스를 보냈어요.학교에 고마운 마음을 보내며 제 첫 블로그를 여기서 마칠게요. 2020년 많이 험난했지만 2021년에는 모든 일이 잘 풀리길 바랄께요!! 모두 새해 복 많이 받으세요 🙂
