Using Data to Improve Healthcare.

Dr Agnieszka Lemanska, School of Health Sciences.

Agz’s research focuses on using information collected within routinely recorded data to improve health of people affected by cancer (e.g. data recorded in primary care when patients visit their GP or a nurse). This data is analysed to obtain specific information and answer important research questions. For example in her recent study Agz retrieved primary care data for patients taking part in a large prostate cancer radiotherapy trial. This technique is called data linkage. The trial compared three different radiotherapy schedules and via linkage with primary care data Agz was able to retrieve additional information not collected within a trial. She is interested in symptoms that affect people many years after they finished their treatment and GP records are an important resource to investigate this.

Agz’s research can be found here: Lemanska et al. (2020) Linkage of the CHHiP randomised controlled trial with primary care data. A study investigating ways of supplementing cancer trials and improving evidence-based practice. BMC Medical Research Methodology.
