What’s been happening in the Library this summer

We regularly receive feedback from you about the pressure on space in the Library and over the last couple of years have asked about your experience of using Library study spaces.

Your feedback has been clear – you need more study space, and for more of what we have to be silent or quiet.

We’re really pleased that with £0.5m investment from the University, this summer we’ve been able to provide just that, refurbishing much of our Level 2 space to provide a fantastic new silent study area and also changing some of the social seating on Level 1 into effective individual study space. We’re also pleased to have been able to upgrade some of the Library’s less attractive areas in the process!

To see more of the changes, take a look at our ‘Before & After’ picture galleries for Levels 1 and 2 on Facebook.

One of the ways we’ve been able to achieve this additional space is to invest in modern compact shelving for our lesser used collections. At the same time we’re moving towards upgrading all our standard shelving to the modern, white and accessible shelving we’ve installed on Level 2.

Level 1 changes have also seen us bring together our printers into a central hub to help reduce queues in our busiest areas.

And what’s best about all of this? You can now enjoy our fantastic new facilities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year!

As we plan further phases we’d love to hear what you think of our summer improvements. Please let us know your thoughts and comments about any aspect of our service or space at library-feedback@surrey.ac.uk.
