25th May 2021, 3-4pm.

We are delighted to announce our Guest Speaker, Professor John Siraj-Blatchford.

Prof John Siraj-Blatchford is an honorary Professor at the University of Plymouth, and co-director of SchemaPlay, a community interest company committed in part to the promotion of  (STEM)L², an initiative that is concerned with supporting integrated approaches that include Language and Literacy (L²) in early childhood Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Presentation title: Schemes, Schema, Education, Mental Rotations and other nonsense: a case for more joined up thinking

Abstract:

The seminar will provide an opportunity to identify and explore the implications of Piaget’s distinction between and scheme and a schema, a distinction that was been lost in translation, and frustrated attempts to introduce more ecological, embodied, and extended cognitive perspectives.
