Call for Abstracts:
This year’s postgraduate and early career researchers conference, Making the Invisible Visible, will take place in person on 15th June 2023.
Making the Invisible Visible is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate wide-reaching research topics and discoveries that address important and unanswered questions. In an era of changing perspectives and rapidly emerging challenges, the need to amplify previously unheard voices, cross interdisciplinary boundaries and build resilience becomes increasingly important. The cross-cutting themes for this year’s conference are:
- Sustainable and Resilient Futures
- Digital and Technological Futures
- Healthy and Inclusive Futures
We welcome submissions from PGRs and ECRs across all faculties within the University of Surrey and hope to receive a diverse range of abstracts that resonate with our conference title, Making the Invisible Visible.
Awards for Best Presentations
Prizes will be awarded across a range of categories, including best oral and best poster presentations, and runners up.
Award certificates will be presented to the winning presenters in the closing ceremony.

Abstract Guidance and Review Process
Abstract should be maximum of 300 words, excluding the title.
Abstracts and presentations should be targeted for a non-expert audience and highlight the interdisciplinary nature of the research.
In addition to the abstract, you will be asked to provide a statement of how this research relates to the theme of the conference (max. 100 words).
All submissions will be anonymously reviewed by the abstract review committee under the direction of the conference organisation committee.
To ensure the anonymity of this process, please do not include identifying information within in the 300 word abstract text or the 100 word statement on how your research relates to the theme of the conference.
The reviewers will assess key characteristics of your abstract such as the novelty, significance of results or expected results, relevance to the conference themes and interdisciplinary nature of the work. These factors will be used to determine whether your work will be most suited for an oral presentation or poster.
The outcome will be available by 12th May 2023. At that time the submitter will be notified as to whether their abstract has been accepted or not and invitations issued for poster or oral presentations.
All posters that are selected to present at the conference will be published online after the event and have a citable DOI created for each poster.
