This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the summer program at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. What an experience it was! From exploring the vibrant culture of Singapore to making friends from around the world, my time at NTU was filled with learning, fun, and unforgettable memories.
One of the best parts of the experience was the sense of community. From the very first day, I was welcomed by both the local students and my fellow international students. Our group was diverse, coming from different parts of the world, but we quickly bonded over shared experiences and a mutual desire to explore and learn..
At NTU, I had the chance to dive deep into subjects that aren’t part of my usual curriculum at Surrey. Learning in a new environment, with different teaching styles and perspectives, helped me broaden my understanding and inspired me to think differently. Outside the classroom, we visited some of Singapore’s most iconic spots — from the stunning Gardens by the Bay to the bustling streets of Chinatown. I even got to taste new and exotic foods, which was a thrilling adventure on its own!
My favourite part of the summer abroad? It was the people. The friends I made and the connections I formed are what made this experience truly special. We had countless moments of laughter, shared cultural experiences, and even the occasional struggle of trying to navigate a new place together. The photos below captures one of those moments, where we gathered together during one of the group activities. We spent the summer not just as classmates, but as friends, supporting each other both academically and socially.
For anyone considering studying abroad, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s a chance to grow, learn, and see the world from a new perspective. Whether it’s the friendships you form, the knowledge you gain, or the cultures you experience, studying abroad is a journey that will stay with you long after you return home.
If you’re considering a summer abroad, go for it! You’ll come back with new skills, lifelong friends, and memories that you’ll treasure forever. I’m grateful to the University of Surrey for this incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to see where my next adventure will take me.
