Hello everyone. My name is Zohal and it is my pleasure to be this year’s ambassador for the University of Surrey. I am going to write about different aspects of life in University of Surrey. Currently, I am studying MEng in Chemical and Process Engineering, which I know is very popular in Iran due to the natural resources of oil and gas. I will write an in-depth article about the Course later on in here so keep an eye on the future posts.
Choosing the right university and the right course was a little challenging at the time. I was a bit confused that what I could be studying with my science background, which in fact is going to give me plenty of opportunities in terms of the career path and progression in life. I have always had the idea of studying medicine or dentistry as every person would do when you have done only science related modules. So I did a lot of research and I decided to study chemical engineering. The next big decision that I had to make was, in which university I am going to study? Well, I can imagine that by now you all know which university I picked. Yes, the University of Surrey.
University of Surrey is located in southeast England, in Surrey. Guildford is the town in Surry County to be known as the home of the University of Surrey. The beautiful picture that you see above is not an exaggeration at all. In fact one of the reasons I picked Surrey was the beautiful campus. I visited about four or five universities in and around London and none of them attracted me as much as Surrey did. It was in June when I viewed Surrey during an Open Day event. One of the ambassadors gave me a tour around the campus and showed me the laboratory facilities within the Engineering Department. Chemical Engineering Department is one of the oldest faculties in the University with more that 100 years of history, so most of the faculty staff are very experienced and hands-on practice. This was another reason for me to choose Surrey. Accommodation in Surrey is in fact very modern and comfortable, and you have the option to choose from different bands based on the budget.
So I made an application and two weeks after the faculty approved it and I had an offer, this was one of the biggest moments of my life and today I can confidently say that it was one of the best decisions I have made so far.
There are a lot more to Surrey than just a beautiful campus and nice accommodation, however, I don’t want to make it too long to read.
In my next posts I will talk you through different activates in Surrey and a bit more about different facilities.
Thank you so much for reading my blog and have a good day.
