On Thursday 5 May at 2pm, we will be launching our very first #surreylibchat on Twitter.

So…what is #surreylibchat?

#surreylibchat is a new discussion forum on Twitter which we hope will take place on a monthly basis. It’s a more dynamic way for us to chat to you live about different Library issues, and get your views about the things that really matter. Each month, we will discuss a different topic – for example, on Thursday we’re going to take a closer look at study zones, and would like to know about your own expectations vs experience of our silent, individual and group study areas.

We will always post an ‘agenda’ on our blog a few days before the #surreylibchat session, so that you can take a look and see what topic we will be talking about.

The agenda for Thursday 5 May at 2pm is:

  • Silent study – your expectations vs actual experience
  • Individual study – your expectations vs actual experience
  • Group study – your expectations vs actual experience
  • Study space – what type would you like to see more of?

As the session gets underway, we may naturally get talking about other subjects – which is absolutely fine and also the point of #surreylibchat! The agenda just offers guideline topics for discussion (although we’ll do our best to stay on track!)

How do you take part?

Firstly – you need a Twitter account. If you don’t have one (but want to see what is being said), you can always just search for the hashtag #surreylibchat on Twitter, and it will do the search for you.

Secondly, be ready to take part at 2pm on Thursday 5 May (although you’re welcome to join us at any time during this hour).

Thirdly, get ready to JOIN IN! #surreylibchat won’t work if no-one is actually talking!!

#surreylibchat Etiquette

If you’ve never taken part in something like this before, here are some top tips to help ensure we’re all on the same page!

  1. Start your messages with @surreylib – that way we’ll know you’re talking to us!
  2. State the question number you’re responding to – i.e. ‘@surreylib 3. I think it works well…’ so that we can keep track of the conversation, and respond.
  3. Finish your tweet with the hashtag #surreylibchat

We will collate all responses following the chat session, and will report back on the blog so that you can catch up with what’s been said – even if you weren’t taking part!

See you Thursday!
