Hey there! If you’re anything like me and love to explore, I’m sure you also want to make the most of your time here in the UK and travel around. Picture this: winding streets, towering spires, and centuries of history all wrapped up in one charming city. Yep, you guessed it – we’re talking about Oxford! This place isn’t just your average city; it’s a hub of academia, culture, and all-around cool vibes. Join me on a day trip to Oxford as we visit this prestigious place.
So, the adventure begins with a quick train ride from Guildford railway station. The return train ticket costs us £15.15 (before those inevitable rail price hikes hit). Pro tip: Bring some homemade egg sandwiches or any home cooked food to keep your stomach full and save some money, but don’t worry, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from if you’d rather not bring too many stuff.
Oxford may be compact, but its historical significance is immense. As we roam its streets, we marveled at the grandeur of its colleges and historic buildings, integral to the prestigious University of Oxford, one of the oldest and most renowned academic institutions in the world. While exploring, we stumbled upon the Pollution Pods at St John’s College, a temporary exhibition offering a thought-provoking experience amidst the university’s timeless surroundings.
Next up, we checked out some of the city’s must-see spots. The Oxford University Museum of Natural History was massive and packed with history; be prepared to spend a few hours soaking in ancient history. Even though we couldn’t go inside the Radcliffe Camera (it’s a library, FYI), we got some instagrammable pics outside – #studentlife, am I right?
Another tip: If you want to channel that academic vibe, consider dressing up in long coats like an Oxford student and have your pictures taken. This classic and smart attire can enhance your experience and make you feel like a part of the prestigious academic community.
For those fancying a view of Oxford, you can climb the tower at the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, costing £6 per person. Just around the corner, you can find the Bridge of Sighs, supposed similar to the better-known Bridge of Sighs in Venice.
Lastly, we visited Westgate Oxford, a bustling shopping center with a variety of shops to browse. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring. Who says retail therapy isn’t real?
Now, we didn’t have time to see everything (there’s just so much!), but places like the Pitt Rivers Museum and the Covered Market can definitely be added to the list. I mean, who wouldn’t want to explore a museum full of ancient artifacts or grab some souvenirs at a market?
So, there you have it – Oxford in a nutshell. Whether you’re a history buff, an aspiring academic, or just looking for a fun day out, this city has something for everyone. So grab your mates, hop on that train, and get ready for an adventure you won’t forget. Oxford awaits – let’s make some memories! 🚂📚
