A Scenic Day Trip to Seven Sisters Cliffs

Are you looking for a fun getaway away from studies, filled with stunning coastal views, fresh sea air, and delicious food? Seven Sisters Cliffs is the perfect place to be โ€”and itโ€™s totally doable as a one-day trip from Guildford! Hereโ€™s how my trip went and how you can plan your own:

๐Ÿš† Getting There: Guildford to Brighton

The journey started with a train ride from Guildford Station to Brighton Station. It’s a smooth and scenic route that makes for a relaxing start to the day. Brighton is the gateway to the South Downs and Seven Sisters, making it the perfect base to begin your adventure.

๐Ÿณ Brunch Stop: RYBKA Fish & Chips

Once we arrived in Brighton, we headed straight for RYBKA Fish & Chipsโ€”a cozy little spot that serves up some of the crispiest, freshest fish and chips Iโ€™ve had in the UK. Perfect fuel for the walk ahead! They even have two types of fishes to choose from: Haddock and Cod.

Bonus: Itโ€™s just a short walk from the station, so it’s super convenient for a quick brunch before the hike.

๐ŸšŒ Brighton to Seven Sisters Cliffs (Birling Gap)

To get to the cliffs, we got on a bus from Brighton. You can take bus 12, 12A, 12X, or 13X towards Eastbourne. The ride offers lovely coastal views and takes about an hour, depending on the route.

๐ŸšŒ Top Tip:

  • If you’re on the 13X, you can get off right at Birling Gap.
  • Other buses (12/12A/12X) stop at East Dean, and from there it’s a scenic 20โ€“30 minute walk to Birling Gap.
  • One-way fare: Just ยฃ3 (with contactless)!

๐ŸŒŠ Exploring Seven Sisters Cliffs

Once you arrive at Birling Gap, the views are absolutely stunning. Towering chalk cliffs, turquoise water, and vast open skies โ€” itโ€™s like something out of a painting.

We walked along the cliffs, took in the ocean breeze, and snapped lots of photos. The walking paths are well-marked, and you can tailor your route depending on how much time and energy you have. Whether you’re after a relaxing stroll or a longer hike, there’s something for everyone.

๐Ÿ“ธ Don’t miss:

  • The view from the cliff edge looking back over the Seven Sisters.
  • The pebble beach down the steps at Birling Gap.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Dinner in Brighton: Regency Restaurant

After a full day of exploring, we made our way back to Brighton and treated ourselves to dinner at the Regency Restaurant โ€” a popular seaside spot known for its fresh seafood and great views of the pier.

I had the seafood paella and scallops and it did not disappoint! The portions were generous and the sunset over the sea added the perfect vibe to wrap up the trip.

๐Ÿš† Heading Home

After dinner, we caught a train back to Guildford, tired but happy. It was one of those satisfying days that leave you feeling refreshed, recharged, and a little more connected to nature.
