Surrey PhD student wins TakeAim competition

Neville Boon, currently a final year PhD student in Mathematics at Surrey, supervised by Rebecca Hoyle, was one of two winners of the TakeAim Competition.  This prize is sponsored by he Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) for Industrial Mathematics.  The TakeAIM competition aims to make visible the crucial role that mathematics plays in all aspects of our lives.  The competition was open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students in the mathematical sciences wishing to convey the potential influence of their work.  The entries were based on the ability of the candidates to articulate the possible future benefits, in both economic and social terms, of their research, and the quality of communication for a general audience.

The prize, an HP Ultrabook laptop, will be awarded at an event at St Catherine’s College, Oxford, on Monday 19 November.
