In 1996, Philip Aston decoded a war time diary that had been written by an RAF pilot, Donald Hill, in a prisoner-of-war camp in Hong Kong (click here for details). In 2000, Andro Linklater told the story of Donald and Pamela Hill and the decoding of Donald’s diary in a book called The Code of Love. After that, it all went quiet for a long time. Then last summer one of our students, Louise Helyer, went to see Philip just after her last exam to say that she wanted to turn the story into a musical, much to Philip’s surprise. Since then she has been working hard on writing and producing the musical which will be performed at the Thorngate Hall, Gosport on 15-17 August this year. More details of the musical are available here and tickets can be purchased online (only £6!) here.
