The paper “Mathematical models of sleep-wake dynamics: comparison of the two process model and a mutual inhibition model“, co-authored by Anne Skeldon, Derk-JanDijk (Surrey Sleep Centre) and Gianne Derks has been published in PloS ONE. It is an open access paper and can be viewed here. The paper shows how recent neuronal models of sleep can be directly linked to the two process model of sleep-wake regulation. This is important because recent advances in mathematical modelling of sleep have focussed on interactions of neuronal populations, yet nearly all sleep research is framed in terms of the two process model.
