Matthew Turner’s latest paper on forced fluid sloshing in a container with bottom topography is to appear in the Journal of Fluids and Structures. This paper uses a conformal mapping to map the interior of the fluid domain to a rectangle with time dependent aspect ratio, in order to perform efficient numerical simulations of the flow. Results show that adding a `hump’ profile to the base of a rectangular vessel can rapidly diminish the non-linearities in the fluid compared to the flat bottom vessel, for a fixed forcing amplitude.
