The paper “A symplectic integrator for dynamic coupling between nonlinear vessel motion with variable cross-section and bottom topography” by Hamid Alemi Ardakani has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Fluids and Structures and will appear in the August issue. A link to the paper on ScienceDirect is here. This paper, motivated by the OWEL project, develops a symplectic integration scheme for the dynamic coupling between vessel motion and interior fluid sloshing. The scheme conserves total energy and gives a balanced partition of energy between the fluid and vessel. Numerical simulations, demonstrating the robustness and efficiency of the scheme, are presented.
