Congratulations to Anna Kostianko, a final year PhD student in the Department of Mathematics, supervised by Bin Cheng and Sergey Zelik, who has been awarded PhD student of the year in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. The citation reads “Anna joined the Department of Mathematics as a PhD student in October 2013, having been chosen by FEPS for the award of both ORS and URS scholarships. Her research focuses on the analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations – a highly complex topic which was elected as an important strategic direction for UK mathematics in the International Review of Mathematics. Anna has a strong background in analysis and has excelled in obtaining several new and important results in the area of inertial manifolds for semi-linear parabolic questions during her time at Surrey, having played an essential role in various joint projects.”
