Ian Morris is visiting the University of Udine this week (Tuesday 19 November to Thursday 21 November) to attend a give a talk at the mini-Workshop on “The joint spectral radius” (link here for the programme). The title of his talk is “Fast approximation of the p-norm joint spectral radius“. The p-norm joint spectral radius is a numerical invariant of a finite set of d-by-d matrices. Ian will be describing some recent work in which he gave an algorithm for calculating the p-norm joint spectral radius. This algorithm is the fastest known for pairs or triples of matrices with positive entries and low dimension. Udine is in the northeast corner of Italy (see red region in map on left).
