Daniel Knott attended a two-week summer school on “Data science and machine learning for climate research” (link here), held at the Future Earth Research School in Bertinoro, Italy, during 5-17 June. Topics included model reduction, system identification, estimation of associated transfer operators, control, uncertainty quantification, deep learning, with applications. The principal organiser was Stefan Klus (Heriot-Watt, formerly Surrey). The summer school photo is shown below (click on the photo for full size image). Daniel remarks “I don’t do climate research, but many of the same methods are interesting for my research field (sleep EEG data)“. Daniel‘s internal PhD supervisor is Anne Skeldon and his external PhD supervisor is Stefan Klus.
