The Statistics Summer Research Internship Programme, hosted by the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford, ran from Monday 7th July to Friday 29th August 2025. It is a competitive programme which awarded only 6 places out of over 50 applications. This summer our second year (now commencing third year) undergraduate Jonathan Rollings was awarded one of the internships. In his project, Jonathan did research on regular vine copulas under the supervision of Professor Robin Evans. His project, entitled “Representing Conditional Independence Models within Directed Acyclic Graphs with Regular Vine Copulas“, focused on graphical modelling: an intersection between graph theory and statistics. Within his project, Jonathan identified a theorem in a published thesis to be incorrect; expanded upon a standard algorithm in graphical modelling; and composed a condition that underpins the connection between DAGs and regular vines. The image below shows Jonathan with a poster he presented on the project. The second picture shows Jonathan along with the other 5 interns at the summer programme. Jonathan is a tutee of Polina Vytnova.
